Retouching FAQ

Intended Use -

Please tell us if you have a particular use in mind – beauty pageant, model comp card, or as part of a CV. This will help us choose the right tone and look".

Here are just some of the things that we can do -

Sharpen, brighten and enhance contrast

Correct colour balance

Remove red eye

Reduce shiny skin

Remove moles, scars and other skin defects

Whiten the teeth

Reduce or remove wrinkles

Smooth the skin for that perfect look

Fix backgrounds (like that tree that is growing out of your head).

Replace backgrounds.

Perform digital "plastic surgery" on bodies and faces.

Picture Quality -

Some tips before you send us your picture :

We will do our utmost to make any photo look its best, but please note that the better the original photo the more chances you will have of getting good results.

For quality retouching we require a high resolution image. If you shoot the picture yourself, please use the highest resolution settings of your camera. If your camera is going to save the images as JPEG (.jpg) files, please choose the highest quality JPEG setting. Tiff (.tif) files are also acceptable. Only Nikon and Canon RAW files will be accepted.

If you are scanning a print, please use a minimum of 300 dpi resolution and set your scanner for a minimum of a 24 bit colour mode (even for black and white photos). Turn off all filters and colour or lighting adjustments in your scanning software.

Basically, if the image is less than 500kb in size, it is unlikely that the result will be acceptable. If you do not have a high resolution picture, send it in and we will tell you if what, if anything can be done (no charge).

Resizing -

DO NOT use imaging software like Irfanview, ACDSee, or even Photoshop or "expert" resizing applications to enlarge a small digital image. This will not improve the image and may actually destroy important detail. Also do not try to improve or sharpen it yourself. Give us the original out of the camera or scanner.

Focus/Sharpness -

Your photo should be IN FOCUS. Although a small amount of sharpening can be done to make an image look better, do not believe what you see on TV. A blurred picture is a blurred picture and no one is going to magically turn it into a sharp one.

Portraits -

For a complex glamour retouching on your face we need a close-up (head shot). Some people may tell you that they can crop a face out of a group shot and create a good portrait. Under normal conditions this is simply not possible unless the original shot was taken under very good lighting conditions with a super high quality professional medium format camera or better.

Special Requirements -

Please list any special requests in the email with your photo submission. For instance, if you have a mole, scar or tattoo that you want to keep in the image, them please say so clearly with an adequate description. Skin smoothing is also subjective. Some prefer to have natural looking skin with just the blemishes removed, while others like the skin smoothed to an almost inhuman, Barbie doll finish. If you have a preference, let us know too.

Copyright -

By submitting an order, the customer certifies and confirms that he/she has the Copyrights to the picture or image. That is, under prevailing laws of the owner's place of residence, the right to reproduce, modify, prepare derivative works and distribute the original image, as well as authorize others to perform any of the above. Any images with a copyright notice on it, must be accompanied by written permission of the copyright owner.

We reserve the right to reject any submitted image or images without explanation.
